The facilities at Kilguilkey House are utilised by Eventing Ireland, the Irish Pony Club, the Duhallow Hunt, the Duhallow Hunt Pony Club and a number of local riding clubs.

Since running their first hunter trials just over twelve years ago, Danny and Michelle have hosted some of the most prestigious equestrian competitions in the country, including the Irish Pony Club National Minimus Championships and the Association of Irish Riding Clubs National One Day Event. The flagship event each year is Kilguilkey House International Horse Trials which sees CIC level competition take place over two days. Growing each year in popularity, 2016 saw the first running of a CIC3* level competition at Kilguilkey, with world-renowned XC course designer Mike Etherington-Smith on board to pose the right questions!

About Eventing

Eventing is a sport which combines great skill with excitement, drama, nail-biting tension and sometimes even a bit of slapstick comedy.

Top-level names from the world of Eventing often compete at the Kilguilkey House International Horse Trials, bringing all the thrills and spills of the sport at this high level to the Mallow area for the very first time.

Riders have to compete in three very different disciplines: First on Day 1 they have to rein in the power and exuberance of their ultra-fit horses to show disciplined precision in the Dressage section; next comes the show jumping, where the riders may have to choose between accuracy and speed. Day 2 brings with it the final phase – the Cross-Country course with its incredible challenges, a chance to let the horses fly over a variety of carefully crafted obstacles; In this last element everything’s to play for and the stakes can be high.
